Hey Friends,
It’s your favorite Mitzi lighting stylist. LaDonna here. I'm excited to share a recent lighting consultation that truly lit up my day! 🌟
I had the pleasure of meeting a friend of Mitiz, Anj Temple, during a lighting consultation via Zoom! She reached out, wanting to transform her new home’s lighting to reflect her style while adding warmth and brightness. She mentioned that the existing fixtures—dining room, entry hall sconces, and master bedroom ceiling light—left by the previous homeowners “felt very heavy and gave off an industrial vibe.” We started with photos of her home and a mood board of ideas she envisioned for each room! Her mood board included wallpaper picks, paint ideas, hardware finishes, and more.
The main challenge we discussed was the 18-20’ vaulted ceilings in her dining and living room. She wanted to be sure the chandelier would be the appropriate size and height while also providing enough brightness at night. She also needed help deciding which wall to install her new sconces on and the best height for them. We discussed her décor, color palette, and the ambiance she wanted to create!
My first impression of Anj was that her style’s incredibly creative and eclectic. I knew the fixtures I suggested had to “speak to her” for her to love them 😊. One key thing I noticed from our meeting and her photos was the stunning panoramic views of her backyard from the dining and living rooms. So, I was mindful not to recommend anything that would obscure those wonderful views!
For Anj’s dining room, I recommended the Mitzi Bailey 15-light chandelier in aged brass. It’s large enough for her space, provides great lighting, and works with her sloped ceiling. Bailey has an airy feel, making a statement without blocking those gorgeous outdoor views! To add an extra layer of lighting, she wanted wall sconces that weren’t pre-existing. I introduced her to the Mitzi Roshani sconces, and she immediately fell in love! The white finish would “pop” against her wallpaper, and the sconce design is like a piece of art.
Anj wanted to keep her existing living room rattan/wicker-style pendant light, as it fits her aesthetic. I recommended adding two Mitzi Cort table lamps by her sofa to tie in with the stone on her fireplace. The Cort lamps, with their terrazzo ceramic bases, add texture and presence while blending seamlessly with her colorful style. I also suggested the Mitzi Indie floor lamp for the corner behind her reading chair. Its natural raffia-textured base complements the pendant light and provides the perfect warm glow for unwinding with a good book. These pieces add layered lighting while complementing her existing pendant.
For the entry hall, I suggested the Bibi 2-light sconces to add texture, height, and character. The Bibi sconces, with their charming stacks of ceramic antique ivory, are sure to spark conversation as guests walk into her home! 😊
Lastly, we updated her master bedroom’s overhead light with the Mitzi Rosa flush mount. We both agreed that Rosa’s open-weave rattan design complemented the living room’s fixture without being “matchy-matchy,” allowing the lighting throughout her home to blend seamlessly from upstairs to downstairs!
To finish everything off, we discussed adding dimmer switches for the main fixtures. This way, Anj can easily adjust the brightness to set the perfect mood for any occasion—from intimate dinners to lively family gatherings.
Now, Anj’s home is warm, cozy, stylish, and inviting—perfect for making memories! It’s amazing how the right lighting can completely transform a space.
