5 Takeaways from Dabito & Natalie Papier's Designer-to-Designer Interview

5 Takeaways from Dabito & Natalie Papier's Designer-to-Designer Interview

What happens when two Tastemakers passionate about color get together to talk shop? A whole lot of inspiration! Natalie Papier of Home Ec. and Dabito joined forces for an episode of our Designer-to-Designer series, sharing a ton of colorful insights. Here’s what we learned.

1. Lighting is, in fact, art

Dabito may not be a fan of flipping on the big light, but he wouldn’t dream of skipping a chandelier. Why? Sculptural beauty! Natalie agrees that overhead lighting is ceiling art by day and functional masterpieces by night.

2. Feeling First

When designing your space, ask yourself, “How do I feel here?” These Tastemakers prioritize this question and emphasize how lighting influences mood. Mastering the art of a well-lit space that also adds to the design style is a balancing act we’re taking on in 2025.

3. It's time to rekindle your color crush

As kids, we loved bright, bold colors, so why did we settle for “safe” neutrals as adults? As color connoisseurs, Dabito and Natalie reminded us to find delight in color and reclaim our color confidence! If color-drenching a room feels too bold (same), start in small ways, like adding pops of color through wall art, accessories, or even a vibrant table lamp.

4. Color is a love language

We’ve been doing color all wrong!  These Tastemakers' fresh take on hues has us seeing the whole spectrum in a whole new way. Colors are more than just shades. They can pay homage to stories, people, objects, or anything that sparks joy. Like Natalie’s nostalgic love for Coca-Cola red or an aubergine bomber jacket that reminds Dabito of his mom. This year, we’re filling our spaces with colors that make us smile.

5. Rules? What rules?

Design is personal, so why play by a rulebook? These Tastemakers know that breaking the "rules" is where the real magic happens. It's all about bending boundaries and letting your space scream you. We’re embracing the freedom to mix in colors, finishes, and materials to create the unexpected!
